What is "eco"?
"Eco" comes from the Greek word for house, oikos, and means "environment" or "habitat," as in "ecology", "the branch of biology that deals with the relations between living organisms and their environment."1 That could almost describe Interior Design in general. But when something is referred to as "eco," like "ecofriendly," it means that it has little negative environmental impact.
For example, flooring from bamboo, a large grass, and cork, a bark, would be considered more ecofriendly than hardwood, because the source material is replenished every a few years rather than decades. However, flooring from "reclaimed" hardwood is eco because no new trees are taken and it uses material that might otherwise be bound for a landfill or burning. While eco products are usually natural, which, as a rule, produces less pollution and non-biodegradable refuse, deck boards made from recycled plastic milk jugs can be considered eco because, like reclaimed lumber, they require no tree harvesting and reduce landfill waste.
Similar terms you might come across are "environmentally responsible," "sustainable," and "green."

Can I get a consultation in my area?
EcoDecorating operates out of the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area. However, we will consider out-of-state projects, depending on their size and scope. Note that some states have the silly legal requirement that Designers be registered and licenced in that particular state (we aren't exactly selling firearms or performing brain surgery here). If you live in such a state, or if we otherwise cannot do an on-site consultation for you, it is also possible that we can refer a Designer in your area that follows our eco-friendly philosophy, so please contact us if you are interested in Design assistance. No, not at this time, but you can browse our website 24/7.
Does EcoDecorating have a printed catalog?
No, we choose to save the trees. Also, our product line may vary during the year. If you don't see what you're looking for, please contact us.
Can I buy directly online?
At this time, you need to place to e-mail your order to us. It kind of goes with our philosophy that we prefer not to order more than we think we'll need, so some products may not be available at the time of your order, and we want to let you know when this is the case. In cases where a product may not be available, we also want to be able to inform you of alternative products we think you might enjoy.
Do you charge sales tax?
We are required to collect sales tax for sales made in the state of Georgia. The tax rate is determined by the county of the customer. Your state may require you to declare out-of-state purchases and pay applicable sales tax, but we do not collect nor report this tax. We will not falsify shipping records to avoid VAT and other taxes on foreign shipments.
How are shipping and handling fees determined?
Shipping and handling fees are determined by several factors: the weight and dimensions of the order; delivery destination; method of shipment; applicable carrier fees; packaging materials; and special considerations, like particularly heavy, awkward, or fragile items. We also recommend, and sometimes require, shipping insurance. You will be informed of S&H costs before your order is processed.
